It's been a few years since I've seen you...but think of you all often and what a wonderful time, good conversation, and fellowship I had at Shakey's while studying at Durham. Look forward to getting back as soon as I can and thanks for taking care of my good friend Christopher Johnson. All the Best, Tom PS. Let me hear from you sometime

Great to come back to The Shakes after 23years. Many a happy hour spent in one of the only pubs in those days that welcomed what most locals refered to as 'fookin stoodents!' Happy memories of Annie, Roy and Jenny. Only complaint... Where's the 80 bob? Thanks for maintaining a Durham tradition...

Used to drink here at weekends late 60's when my uncle was Clerk of Works of the Cathedral. In those days strictly A Scottish and Newcastle Pub with the neon big Blue Star outside. Happy memories of 1/2 of Exhibition Ale with a touch of lemonade. Barmaid was called Alison and came from Consett when you asked for the touch she used to touch your hand. Regulars in those days include the Chief Constable of Durham and the Head Verger from the Cathedral. All sat in the corner playing dominoes with a miner named Joss who used to drink 10 pints of Newky then go down the pit and work a full night shift. Happy days and memories, hope to get back there again someday and see what the passage of 40 years has done to the place . Hoping to be in the U.K about this time next year maybe Tavern time then...........who knows!!

origionally from Durham, used to work saturdays at S.P.C.K. University Bookshop on Saddler st, (before taken over by Dillons!)...My grandfather, Stephen and Catherine Mortimer owned this pub when my mum was small.(any records of the old place??...would be interesting to view them....circa 1935-1950?...guessing at dates a bit...should fall between these dates tho')She (as I did,) attended St.Leonards, in North End...Good memories of coffee in the cathedral...wh en I am down will surely pop in ...PS why can't you buy shakey polo shirts on-line..and what about bringing out other items for sale??

I have always enjoyed a visit to the Shakespeare – and so did the many Norwegians I brought to Durham over the years.
Sadly it's almost two years since I last supped in your hallowed confines, but I aim to put this right very soon.
